Hi guys! I want to share with you something new I discovered – golden milk. Of course it involves health and wellness, because what else right?! I was recently at my favorite produce market and one of the items I always buy is fresh turmeric. Some of you might know what turmeric is some of you may not. Either way I am going to talk more about it in just a little bit.
As I was checking out the cashier asked me what I used the turmeric for, and I told her that I use it to make tea and for cooking. She then asked me if I had ever used it to make “Golden Milk,” which I had never heard of. It sounded interesting so when I got a chance I did a little research, gained lots of knowledge and of course found a recipe for making it.
I’ve always known that turmeric has many health benefits but never knew it had hundreds of them! It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine and in Ayurvedic medicine (a holistic body healing system, that originated in India thousands of years ago) to cure many health problems. Just to name a few of turmeric’s health benefits;
- Anti bacterial
- Aids in digestion
- Aids in skin problems
- Detoxifies the liver
As you can see there are many reasons you should include turmeric into you diet, and since it isn’t consumed by many Americans I think this drink is a good way to incorporate it into your diet.
This recipe is made in two steps. First the turmeric paste then the actual milk drink. The turmeric paste is easy to make and is very convenient, because it can actually be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks. All you’ll have to do is mix it with milk (preferably coconut milk) and a little honey and you’re good to go.
Since turmeric is fat soluble, the fat from the coconut oil and milk will increase its benefits. Don’t be afraid of the high content of fat from the coconut oil and milk. The fat from coconuts is not stored as fat in the body but instead converted into energy by the liver.
In a stainless steel pot combine turmeric, black pepper and water. Heat up it on medium and stir for about five minutes and remove from heat
When it turns into a thick paste add in the coconut oil and place it in a glass jar
In a stainless steel pot Mix together the coconut milk, honey and a teaspoon of the turmeric paste. Enjoy!
You can add different spices to the drink such as cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, and maybe even cacao powder. The paste can be placed in the fridge for up to two weeks.
